Only happens in people who have insufficient kidney function. Digestion of all protein sources leaves Uric acid as a metabolic by-product of breaking down the purines in them. Some types of protein have more purines than others, processed meats like salami, pepperoni and shellfish such as oysters have high purine levels and can lead to Uric acid build up in susceptable people. Most of us have wonderfully efficient little kidneys that flush it all out with no problems. Some people are prone to hyperuricaemia which can lead to gout, but that tends to happen to (mostly) males who are obese and drink a lot. So I would eat my beef and enjoy if I were you.

thanks Em... that's good to know.. I was just wondering if it's true or not.. I was told I should be carefull eating too much beef..
On Dr. Mercola's website he says that uric acid is from too much fructose. I have been known to eat tons of charries.. so I think that's the problem..

I haven't heard about the fructose link, but then I was educated by the mainstream medical institution so they don't neccesarily tell us the whole story on nutrition (saturated fat KILLS for example ). I do know that purines and alcohol definately create uric acid problems in those susceptable individuals, the fructose link is something I will have to research. Thanks!
Btw, have you been told to be careful due to a high uric acid reading from a blood test?

Actully the Bambi burger I had was red deer not fallow and they are huge and not so cute, but very tasty.

Bambi balls are nice tooo!

I have heard the tomatoes and strawberries have uric acid links, but not cherries.

Hey Lisa,

I think what you are referring too is that ammonia from consuming protein which can build up in the system of certain individuals and become a uric acid problem.

Thanks to all of you for your help.. I get a live blood cell reading done every few months or so.. and the last time she was very pleased with my healthy blood,, and saw Uric Acid which is something I never have.. so we guessed that it was because I had been eating way more Beef.. Then I saw the article on Dr.Mercolas website.. so I think it was the high amount of fruits I'd been having, especially cherries because they are very high in fructose.. I'll cut out the fruit for a week and go see her again.. sometime soon...
